The Meizu m1 Note was launched in India on 20th May at a price tag of Rs. 11,999 and can be purchased exclusively at amazon.Thankfully, unlike most phones that are being sold at flash sales, you do not need a prior registration for this one. Here is our first impression of this mid-range Mediatek phone.

Looking at the current trend of Meizu phones, this one is no brainer; sure it comes with a 2K display but is that really necessary? The phone did impress us with its chic design so here’s a closer look at the same.

Design and construction

Meizu has been pretty good at designing decent looking smartphones and the M1 note is no exception. At first it looks like a muscular version of iPhone 5C albeit a cheap knock-off. Most of the front panel is occupied by a 5.5 inch IGZO IPS display. It is surrounded by a two layers of bezels with different thickness. All the physical buttons and ports are exactly where they should be except the power button which is inconveniently placed at the top.

Display and Multimedia

The display of this phone sets it apart because it is difficult to come by such displays in this price range. The 1920x 1080 resolution, the 5.5 inch screen and a sheet of Corning Gorilla glass 3 on top of it make it quite a contender. The outstanding viewing angle and color reproduction due to IGZO panel are like a cherry on top.

This super display does need an equally amazing multimedia experience and the M1 scores on that as well. The loudspeakers provide a decent sound and an immersive multimedia experience.

OS and UI

Majority of the non-expandable multimedia memory is taken up by the OS of the phone- FlyMe (version 4) which looks a lot like a skinned version of Android KitKat. The custom UI of Meizu will need some getting used to especially if you are afirst time user. But once you get used to it, you will certainly find it to be refreshing change. Besides it doesn’t come with a lot of bloatware and installing third party apps feels like a breeze.

Apart from the lack of creativity in design, the phone scores well almost everywhere. This is not to say that it can be called a perfect handset because we can still list a lot of shortcomings. But sweep them under the rug of all the positive features and you have adecent smartphone that performs well.
